University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Delegation to the Netherlands

From September 18 – 26 a delegation of scientists from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is visiting the Netherlands together with the Dutch Consul General in Atlanta (GA), Jaap Veerman.

The delegation will arrive in Amsterdam on Sep 18 and will visit in the days after consequently among others The Hague (Topsector Health Care), Maastricht (University and Academic Center), Eindhoven (Brainport, Catharina Hospital, Philips, BOM, TU Eindhoven, Utrecht Science Park, Rotterdam Erasmus and Leiden (University and campus).

EACC Netherlands has been requested to inform its network on this mission and to source for interest. Businesses, professionals, students, etc. are welcome to request for meetings with delegation members or attend any (networking) programs.

Objectives delegation

UAB has a strong international ambition, which focuses on cooperation in research projects (such as PHD programs), Master’s programs, student exchange programs (offering internships), etc. Their aim is to:

    • Advance healthcare research and applications that will benefit the populations of the Netherlands and the United States and beyond.
    • Explore potential areas of educational and research collaborations in areas of excellence.
    • Address strategies for addressing health inequities for underrepresented populations in both countries.
    • Develop specific research projects, funding mechanisms, and translational applications.

In addition, UAB has closely related to SouthernResearch. This is Birmingham’s life sciences cluster which offers startups, scale ups and research programs office space and support. In particular, they offer development/laboratory space for Dutch bioscience companies.
